This was a classic case of a house where building work had been given priority and the garden had become a storage area but otherwise abandoned. The ground had been compacted while everything became overgrown. The brief was to create an attractive space to match the newly redone house where the clients could host people for dinner or relax on the lawn.

The design began with a central lawn in the shape of a circle and the rest of the garden fell into place following the same curves to form a raised bed, planting areas and a patio. We used London Stone’s Kandla Grey sandstone for the patio which went with the modern style of the new kitchen. To tie it to the house we used reclaimed London stocks to form the raised bed and edging to the patio. Between these two materials and the strong geometric lines of the curves we successfully created a garden that felt like it already belonged to the house.

Not wanting to spend extra money unnecessarily on paving the side return, we simply covered the old concrete with an attractive white shingle which rejuvenated and brightened up this area for minimal spend.

“Alys and the team have really been fantastic, from design through to onsite you've been efficient, helpful and the guys were very tidy given they needed to bring everything through the house. We are so pleased with the result.”
