Our brief here was to turn the rather tired garden into somewhere more attractive that required less maintenance. Our client didn’t have time to mow the lawn and combined with an overgrown area at the end of the garden and old concrete paving it just wasn’t a space she wanted to spend time in. Every garden should be an inviting area to host friends and relax and we wanted to give her somewhere she was proud of.

We decided to get rid of the lawn entirely and instead we constructed a feature of stepping stones through gravel with a series of raised beds. We built an additional seating area at the rear of the garden which gets more sun and replaced the concrete paving at the top of the house with the same sandstone - London Stone’s Mirage Sawn Sandstone. The old paving was listed on Gumtree and collected so none was wasted!

Just before we were due to start the work one of the fences blew down in a storm so it seemed like a sensible time to replace the fence. We constructed a bespoke fence using timber from Jacksons to create a seamless horizontal slatted fence round two sides of the garden. The garden was planted with a range of bee and butterfly friendly planting working with the existing plants but creating new focal points in each of the new raised beds.

The final product is an attractive and calming area where you eye is drawn down the stepping stones past exciting planting with two inviting seating areas to choose from. The small amount of maintenance required is the planting but now the garden is such an appealing place to spend time in our client is excited to start.
