Our client had recently moved in and were keen to get their new garden child friendly for the summer. The patio directly outside the house was a rough concrete area with splintered old posts from a pergola. The rear of the garden had several crumbling raised beds and a huge dilapidated shed with a collapsing roof. Overall it wasn’t a very safe area for children to play! We wanted to create somewhere children could roam and explore safely as well as learn about plants and grow vegetables.

On the positive side the garden had a lot of lovely plants and trees that we were keen to keep and we structured the beds with this in mind. As the garden was so long we decided to break it up into four distinct areas: a new patio, two lawns and a woodland area. In between the two lawns we built an area for a bench and a raised bed for growing vegetables.

The garden also needed new fencing all the way round so we used Jacksons Featherboard fencing to form the new fence. We used London Stone Raj Green sandstone for the patio as well as stepping stones through both lawns. In the woodland area we created a feature using logs cut into rounds to form a circular stepping stone area leading to a timber arbour with fairy lights. The curved lawns were edged with matching sandstone setts to keep it easier maintain although still creating an organic look.

Everyone was very pleased with the end result which is now an inviting place for children and adults. Breaking up the garden helped make the garden seem even bigger as your eye is drawn to various features in the garden.

"We'd like to say how pleased we are with all the work! I absolutely love our new garden and take much pleasure seeing the change in seasons.”
