We were honoured to be asked to do some work on an already fantastic garden that regularly opens for the National Garden Scheme. The garden had been well designed and wonderfully looked after but the brief was to make it more wildlife friendly and make better use of some of the areas.

Inspired by the circular lawn we suggested building a circular pond using a preformed base and reclaimed London stocks. We relaid stepping stones in the new design and installed a hard base for a new bench to admire the pond. Our electrician installed a pond pump and we filled the pond with oxygenating plants to keep it clean. It was important to create access in and out of the pond so we carefully arranged boulders and pebbles to make sure anything that entered could get out again.

After years of topping up compost the beds were overflowing onto the paths so we suggested installing a raised edge using reclaimed London stocks to match the pond. Not only did this make maintaining the beds much easier but it makes the beds into more of a feature, tying them in with the pond and the house.

Elsewhere in the garden we installed a Jacksons palisade fence to separate the top half of the garden with the rear functional area. We also built two leaf mould bins from timber to fit the space and a bug hotel from reclaimed wood filled with logs and brush.

ā€œIā€™m very grateful as I love the new look garden. Pond and all the garden changes have been much admired! It has been a pleasure working with you and Phil.ā€
